Christmas gathering #1/8

The first gathering was the Klassen gathering at my Uncle Pete and Auntie Margaret's. The food was delicious and the company was hilarious. Conversations consisted of holy panty hose, getting pregnant (I'm NOT pregnant!), clap command car start and many other need to be there to get it topics! A great day. And yes we have 8 gatherings to attend. One for each day of the week right through till next Sunday. Yippee ki yay!

Merry Christmas marathon!

Today

Today:

I Made a lot of butter tarts.
Had three extra kids.
Received a Christmas present from one of them, it made my day :)
Repaired the same Christmas present that is sitting under the tree, twice. (bet you can't guess why?)
Found Freddie in the fridge!? Lol.
Received lots of Christmas cards in the mail, also made my day!
Had Subway for supper.
Did one sink full of dishes and two dishwasher loads.
Dipped into that delicious Christmas tree cake of Tanners!
Found my daughter walking around with her brothers dirty gitch on her head! Wishing I thought to take a picture...
Found Tanner and Caleb making snow angels on the floor, it was cute.

Happy Thursday everybody!
Stay warm!

Jam-Jam Cookies

I have tried making Jam-jam's before, always a failure. Last night I tried this one out of my Aunt's cookbook. I chilled the dough this time for a couple hours and that seemed to be the key. (in the past my dough was too soft and too sticky thus making it next to impossible to roll out and cut shapes) This is a cookie I grew up eating. My Mom and my Grandma's all made these. Anyways, I'm glad I found a recipe that works for me bc I think my hubby really likes these cookies. Whenever I get my computer up and running, I'll put this recipe in my Country Cookin' page.

In addition to these my Christmas baking has included: fudge, caramel square, gingersnaps, sugar cookies and shortbread so far. On my list yet is pies, tarts and perhaps more cookies yet ;)

Ps. The only thing different I did was use strawberry jam instead of raspberry jam.

Traditions

I apologize, I have been very disappointing in the blog department! First, my computer moniter (that we bought a month ago) quit working. Secondly even though I have piles of things in my head that I would love to write about, I'm having a hard time writing them down.

Yesterday we went on our annual Christmas tree hunt. This is where traditions come in. We started chopping our own tree down the year Tanner was born. Growing up we never had a real tree. (that I know of) It was still SOOOO exciting when the tree came out to be decorated. We set our tree up last night and I let him put as many ornaments on as he wanted. Needless to say the bottom branches were very heavy laden... Ha ha. He loved it. After he went to bed I did a little rearranging. He never even noticed this morning.

This a new tradition! I never really grew up with a ' Santa' kind of Christmas. So I don't have a lot of tact for this kind of thing but we introduced Freddie the Elf into our home on December 2, 2013. For those of you who have not heard of elf on the shelf, he appears in random places on a daily basis. (with parental assistance of course) but our children believe he is magical. They are not aloud to touch him or he will lose his magic and will not be able to get back to the north pole and give Santa his daily report. They can talk to him but he is not aloud to talk to the kids. I think this is a really fun tradition and look forward to many years yet with Freddie in our home.

We have many other traditions being implemented here in our home but that's it for now. Also, we celebrated our nephews birthday yesterday! Landen turned five years old! Happy birthday Landen!
